Same tournament. Three hosts. Three very different visitor experiences.

Millions of international visitors moved across the United States, Mexico and Canada during the 2026 World Cup. But the mobile experience they received was not necessarily the same as that of local users.

MedUX measured connectivity independently from the customer side, combining passive real-user data across hundreds of thousands of devices with more than 4 million controlled active speed and video tests.

The findings reveal significant differences between visitors and residents — and show how roaming conditions, visitor origin, device characteristics and connection type can shape the experience users actually receive.

MedUX analyzes the mobile experience international visitors actually received across the United States, Mexico and Canada, comparing their connectivity with that of residents on the same host networks.

The analysis reveals very different outcomes across the three markets. Visitors in the United States and Canada experienced materially lower median Download speeds and lower 5G connection shares than residents, while Mexico showed a much smaller national gap. The report also explores how roaming, local SIMs, travel eSIMs, visitor origin and device characteristics contribute to those differences.

It also goes beyond nationwide averages. Using the same 1 km venue areas, MedUX compares residents and roaming visitors around stadiums, airports and downtown locations, revealing particularly clear differences in 5G connection share around stadiums.
